Every forge has a beginning.
Why “Iron Witness”
I liked the sound of it. But it also nods to the adage strike while the iron is hot—not brute force, but patience, focus, decisive action. The name reminds me to pay attention to every part of the process. I’m the “iron witness” when I’m in the forge, and by using the piece, you become one too.

How I started
Small shop, adding one tool at a time. Lots of mistakes, my learning curve was long for a lot of years. Repetition, research and the advice from better smiths pushed the work forward.
Where I work
My shop is in Western North Carolina with a beautiful view of the mountains in the distance. I have called these mountains home for twenty years and I draw inspiration from the nature around me.
Design Names
I’ve refined a handful of knife profiles that I return to. I name them after local mountains I love—Licklog, Doubletop, Waterrock. Take a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway and you’ll see their namesakes.
